Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany on March 14, 1879. When he was 5 he started going to a Catholic elementary school until he was 8 then he went to Luitpold Gymnasium. At the age of 16 Einstein went to Swiss Federal Polytechnic then was referred to Aargau Cantonal School. In 1896 he took back his citizenship to Germany to avoid fighting in their military. Even though he was 17 he enrolled in math and physics for four years at Zurich Polytechnic. While there he met Mileva Marić who he married in 1903 they had two sons: Hans Albert Einstein and Eduard Einstein. In 1919 they divorced because they had lived apart for five years. Later in 1919 he married Elsa Löwenthal, Elsa died in 1936. With help from friends he got a Swiss citizenship in 1901 and then got a job in Bern at the Federal Office for Intellectual Property(the patent office). In 1909 he quit the patent office and became a full teacher at Charles-Ferdinand University in 1911. During 1911 Einstein created the new theory of relativity. In 1921 he visited New York for the first time and then traveled the world. Later he became a US citizen and on April 7, 1955 he died.
The Theory of Relativity is how we can reconcile how fast we are moving compared to some one who is still. For example if Anne is on a moving walkway that is going 2 miles per hour she can say she is moving 2 miles per hour and Emma(who is standing still) will also see Anne going 2 miles per hour. But, if Anne starts walking 2 miles per hour on the 2 mile per hour walkway she can say she is walking at 2 miles per hour but Emma will see her as going 4 miles per hour. Also, if Anne starts walking 2 miles per hour against the walkway Emma will see her as standing still. The basis of relativity is that we can add or subtract our speed respectfully to any measure of velocity we make.
