SUMMER READING
Savvy by Ingrid Law
Summary: Mibs Beaumont is turning 13 and is going to find out her savvy. A savvy is a special know-how that the Beaumonts have. She finds out that her savvy is that she can read the thoughts or feelings of anyone with ink on their skin. Then Mibs, Fish (her brother), Bobbi (a friend), and Will Junior (Bobbi’s brother) get on a bus thinking it’s going to the hospital her father is at (her father got into a car accident) but it ends up going the other direction. They meet a driver named Lester, a lady named Lill, a mean old lady named Carlene, and many others. They finally get to the hospital after a long journey. Their father ends up waking up from his coma and they go back home.
Protagonist: Mibs Beaumont is the protagonist. She is the protagonist because Savvy is about her life. She is also the main character of Savvy. Mibs is the one who is telling the story. The thoughts and feelings she hears are in the book.
Antagonist: The car accident and Mibs’ savvy are the antagonists. The car accident is an antagonist because it gets Mibs’ father in the hospital. Then Mibs’ father being in the hospital makes them go on the adventure. Mibs’ savvy is an antagonist because it is a problem for Mibs the whole time, clogging up her head with voices.

Theme: The theme of Savvy is: know who you are and just be yourself. I think that’s the theme because at first Mibs doesn’t know what her savvy is and she thinks it’s something else. Then when she finds out what her savvy really is she can learn how to use it to save someone. Like towards the end when she uses it to know that her father is still alive. So once you figure yourself out just be yourself and don’t try to be someone else.
Author’s Perspective: Ingrid Law was born in northern New York on May 1st, 1970. She lived by Lake Champlain until she was 6 and then her family moved to Boulder, Colorado. As she grew up she was nervous and shy and realized that small things and places can be just as cool as big places. To this day she lives in Colorado with her daughter. Ingrid Law is still alive (as of now). Some awards and honors she’s won are: Newbery Honors, New York Times Bestseller, and Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Award.
The book Savvy by Ingrid Law is about a girl who has to find out who she really is; her true identity. I thought Savvy was a very good book; it was interesting and would keep the reader reading. I give the book Savvy a 5 star rating, I really liked this book. I think anyone should read this book, girls might like it more than boys though because Savvy is about a girl but it’s a good book. I think the age group for Savvy would be 10 to 14.
