HELPFUL:
Mrs. Brennan gives the old man money for his apples. This is helpful because he looks old and needy. Mrs. Brennan's generosity is helpful when she decides to have the door open for the old man to make up for hiding from him. Mrs. Brennan's generosity is also helpful when she helps the "beggars" by giving them clothes, money, blankets, etc. |
HURTFUL:
Mrs. Brennan's generosity is hurtful because she does not need or want apples and only gets mad at the old man and herself when she buys them. Mrs. Brennan's generosity is also hurtful because she ends up running out of money from paying for the old man's apples. Mrs. Brennan's generosity is harmful because after the old man goes away for the last time they all feel guilty. |
