Pope Saint John XXIII's real name is Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli. Angelo was born in Sotto Il Monte, Italy on November 25,1881. He had 13 siblings and was the oldest boy born to his family. His family was poor but they had enough to buy all necessary needs and was strong from what little they had. Angelo's father Giovanni Roncalli was a tenant farmer in the city Angelo was born in. In 1900 Pope Saint John XXIII was sent to Rome for school to do theological studies. But, in 1901 his studies ended as he was drafted into the military to do work in the infantry. This all happened before Angelo even became a priest.
Pope Saint John XXIII made a long journey in becoming a pope. He became a priest in 1904 when he was 23 years old. Roncalli was ordained a bishop in 1925 after 21 years of being a priest. He was brought up to the College of Cardinals in 1953. Angelo became Pope John XXIII in 1958 at the age of 76. He was also elected to the Chair of Peter in becoming pope. Roncalli was also called "The Good Pope" and probably was the most significant pope if the whole twentieth century. He assembled the Second Vatican Council in 1962 after being a pope for four years. This meeting decided to make these changes in the church. The council decided to let the people listen to the masses in their own language instead of in Latin. It also changed the fact that the priests faced the back of the church by making them face the audience of people in the church. Angelo's work as a pope was very important in making thee church what it is today.

Pope John Paul II beatified him. He was canonized on April 27, 2014. Pope Francis was the pope that finally made him an official saint. The next pope was picked after his death. We all remember what a great pope he was and pray for him up in heaven.
